The Insurance and Medical Aid Funds Division (the division) oversees the regulation of short-term insurance companies, long-term insurance companies, and medical aid funds in Namibia. The division is responsible for ensuring that short-term and long-term insurance companies, as well as medical aid funds, operate in compliance with the Short-term Insurance Act, 1998 (Act No. 4 of 1998), the Long-term Insurance Act, 1998 (Act No. 5 of 1998), and the Medical Aid Funds Act, 1995 (Act No. 23 of 1995) and other relevant Acts and regulations.
The division’s supervisory approach and practices are also aligned to international best practice standards to ensure effective supervision, enhanced regulatory oversight, protect policyholders/members, and maintain fairness in the market which is a core feature of a financial system that is inherently safe and sound.
